Rationale
---------

The last released version of check-ps is from 2001-04-07 and does
not compile out-of-the-box on Linux. Therefore, I decided to put
up a fixed version.

Steps
-----

(a) download check-ps-1.3.2.1.tar.gz, check-ps-1.3.2.1.tar.gz
    from sourceforge.net

(b) verify PGP signature:

bash$ gpg --verify check-ps-1.3.2.1.tar.gz.sig check-ps-1.3.2.1.tar.gz
gpg: WARNING: using insecure memory!
gpg: please see http://www.gnupg.org/faq.html for more information
gpg: Signature made Thu Apr 19 00:30:46 2001 CEST using RSA key ID 0FC12669
gpg: Good signature from "Duncan Simpson <dps@io.stargate.co.uk>"
gpg: WARNING: This key is not certified with a trusted signature!
gpg: There is no indication that the signature belongs to the owner.
Primary key fingerprint: A5 71 00 EA 8D 64 04 69 5B D2 00 24 EB 28 22 3A

(c) download checkps.1.3.2.1-fix1, checkps.1.3.2.1-fix1.sig
    from sourceforge.net

(d) verify PGP signature:

bash$ gpg --verify checkps.1.3.2.1-fix1.sig checkps.1.3.2.1-fix1
gpg: WARNING: using insecure memory!
gpg: please see http://www.gnupg.org/faq.html for more information
gpg: Signature made Wed May 2 19:44:50 2001 CEST using RSA key ID 0FC12669
gpg: Good signature from "Duncan Simpson <dps@io.stargate.co.uk>"
gpg: WARNING: This key is not certified with a trusted signature!
gpg: There is no indication that the signature belongs to the owner.
Primary key fingerprint: A5 71 00 EA 8D 64 04 69 5B D2 00 24 EB 28 22 3A

(e) unpack check-ps and apply the patch:

tar xzvf check-ps-1.3.2.1.tar.gz
cd check-ps-1.3.2.1
patch -p1 < ../checkps.1.3.2.1-fix1

(f) try to compile:

./configure
make
gcc -g -O2 -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -DVERSION="1.3.2.1" -o pidlist_pkill.o -c pidlist_pkill.c
In file included from killscan.h:6,
                 from pidlist_pkill.c:25:
linux/killscan.h:4: linux/tasks.h: No such file or directory
make: *** [pidlist_pkill.o] Error 1

(g) fixed ./linux/killscan.h, add test for linux/threads.h (for PID_MAX)
to configure.in, run autoconf && autoheader

(h) make clean && make

(i) './check-ps --killscan' generates plenty of bogus messages:

Sep 29 19:58:08 Could not open /proc/32767/stat (errno 2 aka. No such file or directory)
Sep 29 19:58:08 Problem openning /proc/32767/stat. This is very suspicious
Sep 29 19:58:08 Security Alert! pid 32767 still active

(j) fixed getpgid calls in pidlist_pkill.c
